FAIRFAX COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

  • Full-time at a K-6 Elementary school, formerly supporting multiple elementary schools

  • Planning and presenting rigorous K-6 and Adapted Art curricula that differentiate for individual student needs

  • Working with grade level and special education teachers to align curriculum to current learning goals

  • Engaging students with contemporary artworks and ideas in order to build critical thinking and connect to the larger world

  • Collecting formative data to gauge student progress in order to continuously improve instruction

  • With the Art department, coordinating annual art shows and creating decorations for school events

  • Successfully transitioning to virtual learning in 2020-2021, with a focus on differentiation as well as teaching digital tools

ADJUNCT EDUCATOR,
VIRGINIA MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS

  • Independently planning and leading weekend classes for children ages 3 months to 5 years and their caretakers 

  • Utilizing museum collections, along with knowledge of best practices in early childhood education, to provide  rich learning experiences that integrate art, music, sensorimotor play, and literacy skills

  • Creating interactive materials and activities related to the museum collection for use within the galleries

  • Researching art historical objects beyond their label copy to better engage visitors in dialogue

SMITHSONIAN ASSOCIATES

  • Using Smithsonian collections and LearningLab to plan K through 9 curriculum on a wide variety of topics, ranging from printmaking to space travel to video game design, with co-instructor

  • Leading gallery teaching experiences centered on specific objects and exhibits, including structured activities and instructional aids to improve student engagement

  • Presenting successful classroom activities, such as story times and art projects, linked to museum field trips

  • Led two 8th grade field trips to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts

INTERN,

  • Planned and taught preschool classes for children ages 2.5 to 5 years and their caretakers

  • Lead gallery tours for infants ages 3 to 14 months and their caretakers, incorporating dialogue, sensory play, and movement activities into the tour

  • Assisted with daily preschool programs, art historical research, administration, and studio maintenance

  • Designed and completed an independent research project on ethical documentation practices and children’s social learning

  • Volunteered at Family Day: ChinaFest in February 2018, leading an art activity, engaging with visitors, and providing directions to other events and locations within the museum
